Dash of Courage: Anti-Courage Checklist

"Leadership is having a point of view" - Roger Enrico

I speak about Courageous Leadership for a living.
But, what does the opposite actually look like?

Speakers that stand out have a point of view. Often contrarian enough to make you think from a different perspective.

Mel Robbins: Her new book "Let Them Theory". Don't change them, fix them, control them. Just Let Them. #1 Book on the Planet.

Brene Brown: "What makes you vulnerable, makes you beautiful". Check.

Will Guidara: His book "Unreasonable Hospitality". Be Unreasonable and Yes, that means creating a budget for the outlandish, mesmerizing, and memorable--never knowing what it will be or how it will happen. A core strategy that makes customers gasp, remember, and come back for more. #1 restaurant in the world.

Courage is hard. Regret is obvious. Maybe a new model is needed.

I present: The Anti-Courage Checklist
For those who want to play it safe, stay small, and look back with regret.

1. Wait for perfect clarity
Never act until you're 100% certain. Which doesn't exist. Clarity can be our scapegoat. Wait.

2. Obsess over what other people think
Fear judgement more than you fear living a life true to yourself with no regrets. Take the quote by David Foster Wallace "You will become way less concerned with what other people think of you...when you realize how seldom they do." Disregard it. Surely he was wrong. Obsess.

3. Only do what you're already good at.
Not great at something? From pickleball to prompting ChatGPT to finally taking a piano lesson. Welcome to the club. Complaining is easier than trying. Complain.

4. Compare yourself to people 10 years ahead of you.
Bonus points if you do it daily on Instagram. Surely the people we see have no struggles. No insecurities. No setbacks. Compare.

5. Tell yourself it's "just not the right time".
Reschedule your dream more times than your dentist appointment. Delay.

Or maybe we realize how ridiculous this checklist sounds and do the opposite.

Dash of Courage: In a world that says wait...have the Courage to Kickass. Stop comparing, complaining, delaying, or thinking that people are judging you. Because the truth is...they're thinking about their own issues and looking, waiting, hoping, or praying for someone to Start. To be vulnerable enough to take that first step and inspire the rest of us to do the same. Be that person.

It’s the right time,
Garrett
