Dash of Courage: Cha-Cha-Cha & 4 Types of Leaders

In a previous life, I led trips to Cuba. 14 times.

From Florida, it’s 90 miles away and 60 years apart. Frozen in time. Utterly fascinating. 

Each time, with each group, we would learn something new. It’s the land of classic cars, cigars, and the Cha-Cha-Cha.

The famous dance started in Cuba in the 1940s.

It’s been one of the most popular dances globally for 85 years. I had to ask the question: why? A wise dance instructor in Havana didn't have to think...

The answer: structured steps + spontaneous flare.

We all need Structure. Systems. A way things work. But we also need more. 

Creativity. Originality. Dare I saw Wow.

It’s the last step that’s memorable and makes all the difference. If we are willing to do it.

The same principles apply to Leadership.
Do we have the courage to take the final bold step that stands out?  

I've found there are 4 Types of Leaders that do the dance.

❌ Cha Cha BLAH - This person does the same steps as everyone else and expects a different result. Similar to the definition of insanity. It’s obvious, goes unnoticed by customers, and falls flat, time and time again. BLAH.

❌ Cha Cha RAH - This person talks about what they will do. Over and Over and Over. And never does it. All talk. No execution. Just endless hype. RAH.

❌ Cha Cha NAH - This person starts with a “no” before it can ever become a “yes.” As a famous person once said “close minded leaders close minds.” Don’t be that leader. NAH

✅ Cha Cha CHA - This person keeps the structured steps and adds their spontaneous flare. It’s differentiated, bold, and iconic. It’s what you can uniquely add based on your insights and experiences that ChatGPT can’t. It’s what customers crave - something refreshingly original. It’s what YOU can provide, something that’s Wow. CHA.

Dash of Courage:

Whatever you are working on - have the Dash of Courage to do the Cha. Add spontaneous flair to the structured steps. What would be refreshingly original? What would make someone take out their phone to take a picture? What would make someone say Wow? 

We all have a choice. Choose to Cha Cha CHA
