Dash of Courage: Tequila Barrel of Courage
"Dare Mighty Things." - Teddy Roosevelt
In Tequila, Mexico, most hotels look the same. Standard rooms, standard design, standard stay.
But one hotel owner decided that “standard” wasn’t good enough. He wanted something Wow. So he built the world’s first and only Tequila Barrel Hotel - Matices Hotel de Barricas.
I had to check it out, make a friend, and hear the story. That’s when I met Gerardo. He’s been working there for 12 years, welcoming guest from around the world. He was excited to share, I was excited to listen.
Cool hat. Want a photo? Have you seen the Cave restaurant?
Gracias. Si. Que?
I thought my hat looked like the Agave Fields. Gerardo thought I looked ridiculous. We both laughed.

Ducks wander the property, Blue agave fields surround the Barrels, and Tequila tasting is a morning ritual (included). You can even blend your own tequila and paint your own bottle. Amazing.
Each Tequila barrel has a giant bed, air conditioning, WiFi, a mini-bar, even a terrace. If you spring for the “Extra Aged Barrel” it includes a private jacuzzi. Genius.
And it worked. Gerardo said the owner had a tiny hotel once. It only had 4 rooms, no bueno, and looked like everything else. Then he had a wild idea.
Not because he was an engineer.
Not because he was an architect.
Because he had the courage to dream differently.
Now travelers from around the world come to stay inside a Tequila Barrel.
Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s different.
Courage isn’t about being slightly better — it’s about being boldly different.
Too often, we play it safe.
We tweak and We polish.
We try to edge ahead by an inch.
But Safe doesn’t spread & Ordinary doesn’t inspire.
You know what does:
Asking how you turn the ordinary into a Tequila Barrel.

What Bold move would make your customers, your clients, or your team stop, smile, and say Wow.
Dash of Courage
This next week, look at one area of your life or work where you’ve been playing it safe. Ask yourself: What’s my Tequila Barrel opportunity? What bold, different move could I make that would make this truly unforgettable?
Start pouring into that.
Courage over Comfort,
Garrett
