Randy Williams has visited all 197 countries.
Then he created his own: Slowjamastan.
As a radio DJ in California, Randy’s favorite music was slow jams. When his dream to visit all 197 countries was accomplished, he needed a new one. He decided to buy land and do the unthinkable: create the most fun “micro-nation” on earth: Slowjamastan.
Randy (aka: The Sultan of Slowjamastan) was also in Japan this past week and reached out to me. We met up and talked about Bold Goals. I asked him how in the world he started Slowjamastan.
He didn’t wait for permission. He got to work.
Slowjamastan flag: He created one
Slowjamastan anthem: He was a radio DJ
Slowjamastan Currency: Online designer
Slowjamastan Passport: Local print shop
Security: He bought old fire trucks and police vehicles
A national leader: The Sultan of Slowjamastan

And a Constitution: Now for the fun part
In your perfect world, what rules would you create?
For Slowjamastan:
#1. No Crocs allowed: As in the shoes. Gross.
#2. Eat String Cheese the right way: peel don’t bite
#3. Slow jams only
Is it recognized by the United Nations: Absolutely not
Is it amazing: Absolutely. People from around the world come to visit his “micro-nation” near the Mexico border in California.
I asked him for advice on setting and achieving bold goals.
His answer: Imagine you started a nation. What rules would you create to make life more grand? Somewhere in there is something you love. Lean in and do more of that.
Without overthinking, these would be mine
1. Aperol Spritz served free daily at 10am & 10pm
2. Everyone must read The Alchemist
3. Everyone must watch The Tiger King
4. Naps are mandatory each day
5. Fun shoes & Wow jackets are required
6. Everyone must Go Around the World in 80 Days: not for passport stamps, but perspective
7. Everyone must “Do the Dash” - choose one bold goal upon entry and commit to go after it.
A Dash of Courage: Take a moment to write down your rules. What would make life more grand? Email me your best. Maybe, just maybe, we start a micro-nation. Do the Dash. Or learn to fly a hot air balloon!
